THE COSMIC CYCLES: NAVIGATING THE AGES OF CONSCIOUSNESS
According to Vedic teachings, the Earth passes through four great ages, or Yugas:
- Satya Yuga (Golden Age)
- Treta Yuga (Silver Age)
- Dwapara Yuga (Bronze Age)
- Kali Yuga (Iron Age).
Just as the angles Earth forms around the Sun determine our seasons, the greater cosmic cycles—the Yugas—are determined by the Sun’s orbit around the Central Sun, or the Galactic Sun.
In the Golden Age, the light of consciousness is at 100%, but by the Kali Yuga, it diminishes to just 25%. The light shining from the Galactic Center gradually rises and falls. Each phase of this rise and fall lasts about 12,000 years, completing a full cycle around the Galactic Sun in roughly 24,000 years.
Thus, looking through the lens of the Yuga system, we cannot jump directly from the Golden Age to the Iron Age or vice versa. Like the changing seasons, consciousness flows through these cycles in a natural progression.
While there is ongoing debate about the exact durations of the Yugas, my readings and observations align closely with the view of Sri Yukteswar, a revered monk and astrologer who was also the guru of Paramahansa Yogananda. According to Sri Yukteswar, we are currently in the Dwapara Yuga—the age of spiritual ascent, which began in 1699 CE and will last about 2400 years. The first and last 200 years of this period are considered transitional phases.
Therefore, from 1699 to 1899, Earth experienced the transition into this new age. Our current Dwapara or Bronze Age will conclude in 4099 CE. In other words, humanity has relatively recently emerged from the darkest phase, Kali Yuga.
As of today (2022), we are in the early cycles of this new age, with the light of consciousness steadily rising. However, because the Yugas span millennia, even though we are in an ascending phase toward enlightenment, by the end of Dwapara Yuga the forces of light and darkness will balance each other equally.
Perhaps the best symbol to describe this era is the Yin-Yang, representing light within darkness and darkness within light. This duality is even captured in the Star Wars saga, where light is born from darkness, and darkness from light.
The knowledge of the Yugas in Vedic teachings is essentially the knowledge of time and, therefore, the stars and light. As we progress through this age of rising light, I believe sciences that carry the wisdom of light will also ascend. One such science is Astrology—the science of light.
May the connections between cosmic currents and the evolution of consciousness become ever clearer.
